The City of the Dead (1960) aka Horror Hotel in the US, has one of my favourite British horror films since my days watching Saturday afternoon spook shows as a kid. It is also one of a handful that I credit as being important to my interest and love of the genre.

I'm probably missing a few . . .

Curse of the Demon (1957)
Dracula (1958)
The Mummy (1959)
The City of the Dead (1960)
Village of the Damned (1960)
The Hunger (1983)
Hellraiser (1987)
28 Days (2002)
The Descent (2005)
28 Weeks (2007)
Eden Lake (2008)
Kill List (2011)

British/American
The Omen (1976)
The Shining (1980)
Event Horizon (1997)

Resident Evil (2002)

Some great choices there, gwally.

I'm also a big fan of City of the Dead... it has such a terrific atmosphere.

Thanks!

Sometimes I wonder if how it would look on Blu then I wonder if it might lose some of it's charm. It's atmosphere.

Eden Lake was a very good one, I don't think I've seen Mum and Dad mentioned so far but I really enjoyed that too!

Not so sure you would consider it horror as such but another film with dark content is Nil By Mouth starring Ray Winston along with a few other faces Eastenders fans may notice! Great film, recommended to you all.

Kill List, Wicker Man and Threads should be in your collections also!

I enjoy watching the old Hammer and Amicus films.
I would list my favorite hammer films but the list would be endless.

City of the Dead is fucking awesome, it was released the same year as Psycho and should have the same status.  A horror classic.
