Movies based on video games
« on: June 29, 2020, 04:52:26 AM »
Super Mario Bros (1993)

Unique, great movie.

Street Fighter (1994)

Never been a huge Jean Claude Van Damme fan but this is worth watching for some hilarious cheese and Raul Julia.

Mortal Kombat (1995)

Never much played the games but the movies and tv show are fun.

Resident Evil (2002)

Never played the games but like the movies especially the first one.  Good zombie action.

Doom (2005)

Played a few Doom games, especially Doom 3 and Doom 4.  Why they decided not to include hell is beyond.  Still has some cool monster action in it though and the fps sequence.

Bloodrayne (2005)

My fav Uwe Boll movie.

Silent Hill (2006)

Big fan of the games and I was super hyped for this movie.  Pyramid Head and the Nurses are the standout.  The sequel is good also.

Batman:  Assault on Arkham (2014)

This is based on the Arkham games, which I am a big fan of.

Sonic the Hedgehog (2019)

Didn't mind this although only played the first Sonic game from what I remember.

Always liked Super Mario Bros though it's been years since I have seen it.

The Resident Evil movies aren't my thing because i love the games but they are fun popcorn movies if I can turn off my fanboy mind.
Love Silent Hill, love love love the Arkham games.
Mario brothers movie is wild as hell and very much what i want in that adaptation it took a weird premise and made it amazing. Street Fighter I dont know haha Mortal Kombat! Did alot of great and alot bad but fun popcorn flick.  Doom just no no. Never watch Bloodrayne or Sonic but Sonic is my shit. Sonic 2 all day!

Part of the Street Fighter movie was actually filmed near where I currently live.  Warner Bros Movieworld on the Gold Coast.  I actually saw a guy in costume while doing a tour of the studio lot when I was a kid.

But it's a fun movie.  It's more like G.I. Joe than SF but each character gets to show their signature move.

That is badass!  I was a huge Vega fan as kid and he died like a bitch!

Dude you nailed it! G.I. Joe dressed up as Street Fighter.  I remember my mom took me see this and she kept asking what the hell was going on, and I didn't know either haha.

Yeah it was one of Bison's troopers I saw in costume just walking around the lot.

It's not like the game, but how can you make it like the game?  The game is just you fight all these people in tournaments then smash up stuff for extra points.  ROUND 2 FIGHT!  You can't make a movie based around that haha.

Doom just no no.

Doom is actually a really good movie.  It has Richard Brake in it from Rob Zombie's movies.  There's a lot worse you can do with this genre.

If Street Fighter did that i would give it so much love for being that self aware.   I'm no fan of the games so I don't really care but as I kid i was confused . Vega goes out like a bitch too.  But MORTAL Kombat now that is. Movie that took the source material and made it work.  For Pg 13 I was disappointed because I wanted the ultra violence but overall it is what it is.
Doom no no no.  So bad the Rock? Why?!  That was the first red flag.  no Hell! I'm out.  I've seen multiple times and still loathe it

I'm not a fan of The Rock but other than Hercules, Doom is the best thing he did IMO.  But I watch it for the creature mayhem and gory violence and the POV sequence at the end is very well done.  This was before movies like Maniac and Hardcore Henry which used POV.  Meaning the whole movie shot from a character's perspective, not like found footage where they are holding a camera.

The lack of hell is disappointing but at least they included some creatures from the game.  For the record, I've played both Doom 3 and Doom 4 so I'm a fan of the games.
