Honey Boy {2019}
« on: August 12, 2019, 04:36:14 PM »
From a screenplay by Shia LaBeouf, based on his own experiences, filmmaker Alma Har'el brings to life a young actor's stormy childhood and early adult years as he struggles to reconcile with his father and deal with his mental health.

Director: Alma Har'el
Writer: Shia LaBeouf
Stars: Shia LaBeouf, Lucas Hedges, Noah Jupe

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt8151874/

Shia LaBeouf’s ups and downs have been well documented given his place in the public eye, from his marathon of his own movies at New York’s Angelika, to wearing a paper bag on his head at the Berlin International Film Festival, to being arrested for public drunkenness.

It’s what makes Honey Boy, the movie LaBeouf wrote (and stars in) based on his own life, such an object of fascination. The film, directed by Alma Har’el, premiered at Sundance earlier this year to positive reviews, and the first trailer packs a punch.

This is the first good look we’ve gotten as LaBeouf playing a version of his own father, sporting a receding hairline and sideburns (and accent) that put him at the furthest remove from his image as a child star. Noah Jupe and Lucas Hedges play the fictionalized version of LaBeouf as a child star and as a young man beginning to spiral out. (Hedges in particular is doing an uncanny LaBeouf impression.)

In theaters November 8th.

Saw the trailer for this! Very excited, there's just something about him..

Loved him in Nymphomaniac and loved that little short film, obviously far away from where he started at Disney channel and guaranteed to make people upset. Disturbia is also a lot of fun. His participation in Sia's music video was also beautiful yet people deemed it inappropriate because of the age of the little girl he was dancing with.. I feel once he started to be perceived as weird it was easier for people to pin prick every little thing he did.

He's honestly a phenomenal actor. Don't care much for the movie, but the beginning scene of Eagle Eye at his character's brother's funeral.. his acting made me get chills. He's very talented, and it was very sad to see him negatively portrayed in the media because of his life mishaps.

Being a child actor has destroyed so many young people's lives, and I think this film is going to be a very raw, heartbreaking, truthful portrayal of growing up in such away. People are quick to assume being famous is the end all be all of what you can accomplish, but I can't even imagine the pressure and scrutiny brought upon oneself at such a young age, being the breadwinner for your family.

I hope this film will help people connect more with him, and mostly gain more understanding and not be so judgmental over people's lives they really know nothing about.
