Bedevilled (2010)
« on: February 04, 2013, 09:43:57 PM »
Hae-won is a beautiful single woman in her thirties who works at a bank in the Seoul city. She leads a busy life until she becomes a witness to an attempted murder case, and at the same time, things get complicated at work. When things get out of hand she is forced to take a vacation so she heads for 'Moodo', a small undeveloped island, where she had once visited to see her grandparents. And where she had befriended a girl named Bok-nam who stills writes to Hae-won asking her to visit despite the fact that Hae-won never bothered to reply. Upon arriving at the island, Hae-won is shocked to see everyone treating Bok-nam like a slave. As practically the only young woman on the island, she is a plaything for all the men and a free laborer for the women. Sick of all the inhumane treatment, Bok-nam had tried to escape the island several times in the past but had failed each time. She begs Hae-won to help her escape the place, but Hae-won remains indifferent not wanting to be involved in ... Written by Fine Cut

I saw the trailer for this on some DVD or Bluray I have. It looked interesting enough. I saw it not so long ago somewhere too, but passed on it as I hadn't heard anything. How'd you like it?

It was my favorite film of 2010 and IMO 2010 (late 2009, early 2011) was by far the best year ever for extreme/disturbing cinema. It isn't the most extreme film ever made (A Serbian Films was released around the same time),but it is a really fucked up movie.

Kind of wishing I didn't pass on it. When you say fucked up, is it only in theme or is it visually too? I found Old Boy was fucked up theme wise, but visually it wasn't really at all disturbing.

I've had the Blu-ray sitting in my room for a while.  I should really watch this.  I've heard some good things about it.

I rented this one sometime last year, and unfortunately was a little underwhelmed with what I got. It's quite clumsily handled in a lot of respects, plus some of the performances came across as slightly lacking. A shame, as I felt it had the potential and momentum to go the distance, but in my mind never quite arrived there.

It's worth a watch, and I don't regret seeing it, but I can't see myself wanting to return to this anytime soon.

I thought this was a good bloody violent revenge flick. It gets better during the second half. 8/10
