The hero winning is a good fantasy to feed the masses.  I don't mind hero stories, though.  But it's not really who wins but the journey to get there.  Horror often deals with the supernatural which is where the truth really is.  Occultism, for example, basically runs the world.  News and Current Affairs programs only deal with limited fake reality, filtered through the lenses of propaganda/politics to serve the corporate/globalist agenda.

Slender Man is a good movie!  It achieves what it set out to do.  Why do people bash this and praise The Ring remake?  The Ring remake is so silly, that little girl's stupid scary face at the end.   :horror:  Slender is how you do it right.  A modern boogey man/supernatural scary tale.
