Melancholie der Engel. A masterpiece or not?
« on: February 01, 2019, 10:25:23 AM »
Melancholie der Engel (The Angels' Melancholia) by Marian Dora is one of my all time favourite. Most people Iíve talk to about this movie doesnít agree with me at all when I tell them that I think it is a masterpiece, and even moving art. They say itís just another b-movie, and nothing more. Sure, it doesnít have the best acting (which low budget movie in this scene has?), and the story is pretty weird. But it has something else, something that is hard to explain, that makes it such a great movie. And no, itís not a great movie according to me just cause of the blood, gore, drugs and nakedness, no, no! Itís the way it effects you on psychologically level, with the surroundings, atmosphere and the constant wait for ďthatĒ to happen. And the pictures is just astonishing. I donít know about you guys, but this movie effected me, and I thinks it deserves to be discussed here. I want to know what people think when they hear the title ďMelancholie der EngelĒ.

This is my first post here, and my English is not perfect.

Letís go! Let me hear your thoughts. And I also wanna know what you think about Doras other work, but maybe we save that for another thread.

Cheers from Sweden!

Heard about this one, never seen it.  I did see Cannibal though (same director).  Cannibal is based on Armin Meiwes aka Rotenberg Cannibal.  Good movie that one.

Here we had a small discussion going in 2013.

I watched it first without subs. I read the synopsis so I kinda new what was going on. Then I watched it with subs. I think you mentioned in your post..'Art' yes I totally agree. Art piece. I liked it. One scene with a woman and some video tape...my favorite scene, so simple yet beautiful, it has stuck with me. I really should re watch this, it has been awhile. Cannibal is my favorite Dora film.  :red_heart:
