Director; Andrew Getty

This has been in production since 2002.

The sadistic tale of a lonely, mentally handicapped boy who befriends his reflection in an antique mirror. This demonic creature orders him to go on a murderous rampage to kill the people he loves most.

Quote
Not only is The Evil Within terrifying, itís also a fitting metaphor for the effects that meth addiction had on the director.

The name Andrew Rork Getty may not mean much to you. He was the wealthy scion of the Getty oil dynasty who, despite having no experience in the world of film, decided to devote his time and considerable financial resources to a quixotic personal project: writing and directing a horror film inspired by his nightmares.
The film is called The Evil Within and, according to producer Michel Luceri, it cost Getty around $5m and left him in financial ruin.

Shooting began in 2002, but Gettyís debut has taken over 15 years to see the light of the day. Now, thanks to Vision Film and Amazonís streaming service, The Evil Within is set to become a cult classic among extreme horror fans.

Getty passed away in 2015, at the age of 47, without living to see his film released. He died of a hemorrhage provoked by his repeated, recreational methamphetamine use. His addiction to the drug also partly explains the frightening intensity of his nightmares, which in turn inspired the film.

Pretty crazy movie but extremely well done, well of course the director was a meth addict and a millionaire.

It was sad that he died before he could see his film released props to those that brought his film out. I will buy it if ever put to  DVD. The back story is pretty intriguing to me and I'd love to own it. I personally can re watch this again. 10/10

Glad it lives up to it's promise!

Deserves so much love with the limited amount of the vision we get in the trailer! Plus that back story with the millionaire meth addict deciding to create this is awesome!

Shame it's only on amazon, hopefully they do release t on DVD in the near future.

Very interesting...really sad the loss of what he may have brought to us in the name of horror. Cannot wait for my copy to arrive to give it a shot!

I have read a bit of the "story" behind this movie and I find it fascinating. A pity that he could never see his movie released. I find his attitude "heroic" at some point. In any case I would love to see this movie someday.
