I hate to see that some people think it would destroy their career just because they (Dillon and Thurman) took part in a type of graphic film you wouldn't normally see shown to audiences like this.
It may not be a lot of people's cup of tea but it's still art, you don't have to agree with that art.

I think it's funny that the mass majority of people who don't watch or know extreme cinema will complain about how stupid or boring or "not scary" mainstream horror in theaters are, yet also complain when more extreme and quality (assumed, I have not watched it yet) horror is brought to the table. :rolleyes2:

Pretty keen for this... However I do feel as though the films brutality is being way over hyped. I don't know why, but I'm getting that vibe. I absolutely loath it when you've got yourself amped up for some intense shit, and it falls short.

So, I'm being very wary of that. Most of the headlines you see about the films shock value are aimed at people who dip their toes in the genre once and a while, to enticed them to click. Not really aimed at the super hardcore fans, who are on their 9th rewatch of August Underground or some shit, ha.

It can go either way. Its certainly something I'm looking forward to.

Too many weak-minded people got upset by the trailer...ffs :cantlook:

Reckon they will release an uncut DVD...totally bizarre the VOD is cut! Guess people aren't adults and allowed to make choices...and others hate people's freedom of speech...fucking sad!

Really want to see it, looks awesome. I've seen around 10 Lars Von Trier's movies (lately disappointing with Nymphomaniac and Melancholia) but I have big expectations for this one. (Maybe kind of like Henry portrait of a serial killer 1986).

Side note I have to go theatre to watch new Gaspar Noe's work, Climax.

The House That Jack Built - 3/5

Not the home run I thought it would be. It's too slow for starters, and while Matt Dillion gives a good performance, his Jack isn't a very interesting character. This is Von Triers version of American Psycho, complete with black comedy but boredom does creep in, and the more obscure elements won't go over with mainstream audiences. There's cringy violence, but nothing on the level that the Cannes pearl clutchers claimed to be, and a sequence involving a couple of kids and a rifle will surely make jaws drop. Long movies can still be engaging as Suspiria proves, but Von Trier stumbles and it becomes more of a house of cards.

Released in German theatres on 29th Nov. It is being shown in the uncut version, which for this country, is some achievement  8)
