« on: May 15, 2015, 09:43:50 AM »

SYNOPSIS

"After the continuous sleep walking episodes of Sharon the young daughter of Rose Da Silva the decision is made to take Sharon to the place only mentioned in her restless dreams - Silent Hill. The road to this ghost town though is anything but easy to access and Rose creates a high-speed chase between herself and a police officer only to end in a crash. When she wakes up Sharon has disappeared and Rose is at the entrance to the deserted nightmarish town of Silent Hill. As Rose searches for her daughter terror and mystery surrounds her finding herself more and more entwined into the disturbing past of the town."

REVIEW

Iím going to stick my neck out here and say I love Christopher Gans' eerie ghost town mystery 'Silent Hill' and that it's one of my favourite modern horror films. Iím no hardcore gamer but a casual retro one and I've never played the Silent Hill video game series. I knew very little about it and its mythology when I saw this adaptation for the first time.

Judging it as a singular work, I found myself totally immersed in this atmospheric world Gans had created. This atmosphere is greatly heightened by the original games' composer Akira Yamaoka's beautiful score and along with its stunning visuals, innovative creature creations, gorgeous set designs, interesting characters and an emotional lending to the sorrowful story with its damning commentary on religious fundamentalism it all left a lump in my throat. Sure, it's not perfect by any means. It's overlong due to certain dialogue scenes that could have done with ending up on the cutting room floor to make for a much leaner pacing and some of that dialogue itself is a little clunky. There is also way too much exposition clustered in the second act.

Overall though, ĎSilent Hillí is a creepy and emotive rewarding experience.

Agree completely this was an amazing film!
The creatures are some of my favorites that I have ever seen, and although the storyline was excellent the film was way too long

Silent Hill (2006)

- really insanely awesome, just like the games

Silent Hill:  Revelation (2012)

Does not deserve the hate, a worthy sequel

Silent Hill (????) - directed by Christophe Gans who did the first movie, cannot wait for this one

I love the first three games and the second is my favorite.  Love both movies.  What is funny is the ghost town in the movie is based around a ghost town in Pennsylvania called Centraila.  There was an underground mine fire that still burns and an ominous creepy church as well.  Very cool place to visit for a day trip. I'll edit my post with links to the town if anyone is interested.

I've seen a lot about that town, it's a nice little town.  Would love to visit.

It is really something to see and drive through.  Sadly they filled in the graffiti highway that was there.  That was really cool to see except for all the penis graffiti but some truly amazing spray paint art now gone.  If you are into hiking definitely check out all the parks within the area as well.

On the topic of the first movie I really enjoyed how it blended the elements of the games into the story.  And it was it's own story that worked, I really need to rewatch this tonight.  I haven't watched the sequel since it came out I thought it was good.

I was and still am obsessed with the mythology of Silent Hill such an amazing back story and history.  Very open ended so the discussions will never end.
