Du zhan aka Drug War (2013)










A drug cartel boss who is arrested in a raid is coerced into betraying his former accomplices as part of an undercover operation.

Famous Hong Kong director Johnnie To has recently made some comedies for the Chinese mainland market. But, he was always producing them through his HK company allowing him to stay in control. With Drug War, hes taking the next step, being directly produced by a Chinese company set in Beijing. To direct this mysterious thriller, whose synopsis is still being kept secret. To has been reluctant to make this move until then he may be losing part of his artistic freedom. So, how will this affect his work? For your information, the film is written by his long-time screenwriter Wai Ka-fai. Shooting began late December 2011.
