The Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise
« on: March 29, 2014, 11:33:25 AM »

Just watching the link above on youtube and thought about discussing this franchise which we have talked about in general in just slashers category.

The 1st and original TCM film was so awesome and very well made by a young Tobe Hooper for about $80,000 to $90,000 and grossed over $30,000,000. Hooper also directed TCM 2 which starred the late and great Dennis Hopper.

Love the first two.. Love them.

I bought Arrow Video's limited to 10,000 copies of the second film when they released it last year in a 3 disc set. It's awesome.

The first two are equally as awesome in my book. though for very different reasons. I originally hated the second film. lol

I haven't seen any of the others, apart from the remake, which was complete ass.

The first is genius and just bought the second a few weeks ago, cannot remember ever seeing it though  Also have last years one as well but yet to view it, really liked the stills I saw on Tumblr so...

The one made last year... I've not seen one person like it.

It got slammed by everyone on BD.. And all my mates who have seen it (who aren't fans of the original) also said it was utterly terrible..

So yeah, I have zero incentive to see it.

I liked it and wrote a feature review giving it a solid *** out of ****. Its my fourth favourite TCM film after the original, 2 and 'The Beginning' respectively. I don't care what anybody says it's an entertaining different spin on the franchise that has/had the potential to kick off a possibly intriguing new continuity in the series. So bollocks! Best to see the unrated version...

Instead of being a cunt as usual, go read my thoughts on it (just skip down to the review section of the feature if you're too much of a lazy cunt as well as being an all-round cunt) and then go make up your own mind about the film by watching it for yourself. It's an unfairly maligned sequel.

;)

Wanker.

Franchise-wise, I think TCM is the worst (well besides Silent Night, Deadly Night). The first movie is SO good, though. I honestly think it's one of the best movies, period. The sequels were entertaining, don't get me wrong. And there were things I liked about the whatever-the-most-recent sequel was, but EVERY TCM sequel goes the route of ignoring the other sequels, so it's not really a franchise, it's more like a bunch of part two's.

The only one I really like is the original. The 2003 remake is decent though and I feel it gets more hate than it deserves.

Yeah it's far from perfect but it's a decent little film overall and is worth checking out.

The original easily makes my top 5 horror films of all time being a definitive example of the genre. I prefer the prequel to the remake.

I love the first one and it is the only one that gets a 10/10 from me.  But I also rate the others decent enough for some reason my next favorite is Leatherface Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3 I really enjoy that one 8/10 and then the second one I give a 7/10. The remake , the beginning, and the new one I give all a 6/10. And I am going to ignore Next Generation because it has been so long since I watched it.

You never want to see that piece of shit again. :D

Here's how I rank the franchise:

1
2
'The Beginning'
Texas Chainsaw
3
Remake
Next Generation

This is my favourite franchise of the big horror slashers, because it didn't get as silly as Jason/Freddy/Chucky/Michael.

TCM (1974)

Amazingly gritty and brutal for its time.  The dinner scene is crazy.  Classic.

TCM II (1986)

Got a bit silly but I like Chop Top.

TCM III (1990)

I've only seen it once, don't remember much about it.

TCM:  The Next Generation (1995)

Way too silly for me.

TCM (2003)

This is actually a pretty good remake.

TCM:  The Beginning (2006)

I like this one too.  R. Lee Ermey is great in these.

Texas Chainsaw (2013)

This is a lot of fun, doesn't deserve the hate.

Leatherface (2017)

Good prequel.  I like the ending.

TCM Reboot (????)
