Leptirica {1973}
« on: August 06, 2013, 05:43:11 PM »

Director: Djordje Kadijevic

Leptirica (The She-Butterfly, 1973) is based on a revered classic of Serbian nineteenth-century literature, the short story 'After Ninety Years' by Milovan Glisic. Its hero is Strahinya, a poor lad in rural Serbia who falls in love with the local landowner's daughter: in order to prove himself worthy of her love, he has to spend a night in an accursed mill. It is said that a vampire is sucking the blood of unfortunate mill men, thereby bringing the village to the verge of famine.

Full Movie:

Sava Savanovic is possibly one the most haunting creatures in the horror film. Even though the story is very simple and the modern makeup and visual effect has surplussed the ones in this film, I don't think any Western director can duplicate the haunted characters in this film.

I'll be sure to check this out soon wooden, looks amazing. For me in a lot of ways had a feel of an Underground Horror with certain aspects to it that I cannot explain. The visuals are amazing, especially when it is night. Plus the vampire looks original and awesome!
