Quote
This movie portrays the drug scene in Berlin in the 1970s, following tape recordings of Christiane F. 14-year-old Christiane lives with her mother and little sister in a typical multi-story apartment building in Berlin. She's fascinated by 'The Sound', a new disco with the most modern equipment. Although legally she's too young, she asks a friend to take her. There, she meets Detlef, who's in a clique where everybody's on drugs. Step by step she gets drawn deeper into the scene.

In this film we witness how a girl of 14 years, gradually being introduced in the dark and seedy world of drugs. She starts imitating the tattoo of the boy she likes and continuous sniffing heroin, just as he does.

The story is set in Berlin in the 70s, a cold and decadent Berlin in which many young people have nothing better to do than inject and go slowly dying. During the film we are a impotent witness of all phases by Cristina in her descent into hell.

The performances are impeccable and at all times we find natural and believable teenagers. In short Christiane F, is a film cold, hard, sordid, decadent, and ultimately a great movie.

A very sad, but believable portrayal of drug addiction amongst the Berlin youth. Natja Brunckhorst is particularly good in her portrayal of Christiane.

A great Bowie soundtrack, which works well here too.
