Ganja & Hess (1973)
« on: June 09, 2013, 05:22:47 AM »

Ganja & Hess is a 1973 Blaxploitation/horror film directed by Bill Gunn and stars Marlene Clark and Duane Jones. The film follows the exploits of archaeologist Dr. Hess Green (Jones) who becomes a vampire after being stabbed by his intelligent, but unstable, assistant (Gunn) with an ancient cursed dagger. Green falls in love with his assistant's widow, Ganja (Clark), who learns Green's dark secret.

This film contains the only other lead role for Duane Jones, best known for starring in the 1968 film Night of the Living Dead.

Not your typical Blaxploitationer, but certainly one of my favourites, Ganja & Hess piles on the surreal as well as playing to a darker mood, with some '70s psychedelia thrown in for good measure. Also, despite Ganja & Hess falling within the criteria of the Blaxploitation film, it is far from exploitative in nature. Irrelevant of where it falls though, it is a fantastic and interesting film that demands a wider audience.

I'm glad you liked it, and thanks for posting that video my dear - I would have done, but as you know I'm video-challenged at the moment!  :sniffles:
