Title: The Amicus Thread

Much like Hammer, Amicus is another British film institution with a rich and varied history. Although a British film production company (based at Shepperton Studios), Amicus was founded by American producer and screenwriter Milton Subotsky and Max Rosenberg.

Although they started out producing musicals in the early 1960s, Amicus is arguably most famous for their 'Portmanteau' style of horror films from the 1960s and 1970s.

A few of my favourites:

Dr. Terror's House of Horrors (1964)

The Skull (1965)

Tales from the Crypt (1972)

Vault of Horror (1973)

The Beast Must Die (1974)

Discuss all things Amicus here!

Tales From the Crypt & Vault of Horror are to of my favourite films from the 70s but one of the best Amicus stories is the Waxworks that appears in The House That Dripped Blood. Saw that as a kid & it always stuck with me but for years I never new what movie it was in til I stumbled on this little gem on TV late one night.

Vault of Horror is great, I particularly like the story with Dr Who's Tom Baker.

Dr. Terror's House of Horrors was the best , but finding a decent copy at a reasonable price is damn near impossible to find.
Then would be Tales from the Crypt, Vault of Horror, From Beyond the Grave and I do believe that Torture Garden was and Amicus production as well. The Beast Must Die was so-so IMO

Yes, The Torture Garden was also Amicus, and a nice little anthology it is too.

The Beast Must Die is pretty fun, plus I love the freeze frame segment in the latter half where they ask the audience to guess who the killer is. :D

Another terrific Amicus film, and one which I only discovered recently:

Madhouse:

Watched The House that Dripped Blood yesterday.  Great anthology, like the last story in particular.  Jon Pertwee and Ingrid Pitt!  Awesome.

From beyond the grave
The house that dripped blood
And I think they did the tales from the crypt movie. I could be wrong though.
