I can't remember if I saw Hell of the Living Dead, or I'm getting it confused with Zombie Holocaust.

They two very different movies. One set in New Guinea with elephants and the lead actress goes native with the amazing changing make-up. Also known as Virus.

I'm pretty sure the one I watched was Hell of the Living Dead.  I remember it being set in the jungle with natives and was quite gory.  Or maybe I'm thinking of something completely different.

Zombie Holocaust is otherwise known as Doctor Butcher M.D.

Both look insane as hell, very gory sleazy Italian schlock from the early 80s probably made because of the big success of Dawn of the Dead otherwise known as Zombi in Italy.   :horror:

I always find zombies boring in movies and video games. I don't like them but there are some exceptions. Like this one

Second wooden's picks, all amazing films!

As for Hell, yes it is. Doctor Butcher, Hell of the Living Dead and Zombie Flesh Eaters aka Zombie came in a boxset by Umbrella years ago.

IMO, there are three seminal zombie films:

White Zombie (1932) - by many accounts the first zombie movie, which borrows from Haitian folklore.  These zombies are controlled by a Master.

Night of the Living Dead (1968) - these aren't really supposed to be zombies, they are more like the ghouls in Carnival of Souls, but it introduced what most people consider the classic zombie.  Flesh-eating, slow moving, one bite and you become a zombie, etc..

28 Days Later (2002) - these are like the classic zombies except they run, and they are infected by a virus.  Now almost every zombie movie is viral infected, running zombies.

Of course there are many other types of zombies, but these appear to be the main types.  And all other zombies are variations of.

Haven't seen White Zombie in decades. Need to revisit!

Thought ReZort (2016) wasn't bad. After a apocolyptic event the humans over come the zombies and put the last of them on an island. People can visit there to go shooting zombies. Naturally the shit hits the fan and in 24 hours the island will be obliterated.

What I dug about this was the fresh zombies can run and the older ones obviously shamble along. Zombies looked pretty good too.

White Zombie is a classic.  Should be as highly regarded as Frankenstein and Dracula.

One of Bela Lugosi's best too.

There was also a sequel made called Revolt of the Zombies (1936).

After careful consideration I would have to say that Day of the Dead is my favourite zombie film.  I love the other Romero zombie films up to Land of the Dead as well.  But Day of the Dead has the best characters IMO, a great script, awesome gore effects/zombie makeup and a dark tone.  Maybe not as dark and creepy as Night of the Living Dead, though.

And Bub the zombie, the best zombie of all time.

Three movies that likely influenced George Romero's Night of the Living Dead:

Carnival of Souls (1962)

The Last Man on Earth (1964)

Plague of the Zombies (1966)

And an often overlooked zombie film:

Plan 9 From Outer Space (1959)

Dawn of Dead

The Dawn of the Dead remake and Shaun of the Dead are both very good zombie movies, I would include them on my list for sure.  Also, the first Resident Evil I mentioned but that's also a really good zombie flick.  Also REC and REC 2.

Train to Busan I will be checking out soon.  A lot of praise for that movie.

I would add Bone Sickness to the list as well.  A really fucked up unique movie. And amazing SFX.  Got to be a little much at the end but I love that shit so i was all in.  More splatter please haha.

I've sadly not seen Blood Pigs.  I'm still trying to track down a copy.  I can order one online but I'm a brick and mortar shopper.  Online only when I admit defeat.

Love it!

Sadly these was a problem with the programme he used and the rate of frames or some shit. But to be honest after the first couple of times it just became an aspect of the experience. It's a great gory, post apocalypse  zombie masterpiece...."Eat the Dead!"

Zombie
City of the Living Dead
The Beyond
House by the Cemetery (kind of a zombie)
Conquest (zombie-like creatures)
Zombi 3

He does.

Watched both The Dead Don't Die (2019) and Zombieland : Double Tap. Dug them both for what they bring. Don't see comedy just aspects of people's actions. Both bring forth certain feelings...

Wasn't a big fan of the first Zombieland which is why I didn't see it.

Might check out The Dead Don't Die.

Zombie comedies not really my thing.

I like all Italian zombie movies (the ones I've seen, at least), especially from the 70s/80s, I don't care how bad or cheesy they are.

Notables:

Zombi 3
Zombi 4:  After Death
Zombi 5:  Killing Birds
Nightmare City
Burial Ground:  Nights of Terror
Doctor Butcher M.D. aka Zombie Holocaust
Hell of the Living Dead
Zombie
City of the Living Dead
The Beyond
Cemetery Man
The House By the Cemetery
Let Sleeping Corpses Lie

I enjoy all of those after the Zombis. Just personal taste but I wont anyone for liking them.  Burial Ground is epic. Just a crazy claustrophobic feeling and great kills.  I also enjoy Hell Of The Living Dead alot too.  I may of talked shit on it in the past but after repeated visits to it I enjoy it for what it is.
Children shouldn't play with dead things is an interesting one that should be on a lot of lists of American Zombie movies.  Its slow and moody but just a bleak unsettling movie to watch.
Bone Sickness has been mentioned and I cant get enough of it
I would say Gore Whore as well is one of my favorite Zombie movies blend of Re Animator and traditional flesh eatting zombie.  With a unique erotic twist.

Dead Next Door.  Now this one is bonkers haha. Zombies, a cult with a Jim Jones. Ah so good so good.  The decapitation scene with the finger eatting is so good.
