Don't come in here until you see the film. YOU MUST SEE THIS!

What could make this scene more eerily beautiful than it already is? Knowing it’s improvised by Joaquin.

Quote
When Joaquin Phoenix struggled early on to wrap his head around Arthur Fleck, the terminally depressed, mentally unstable, and bullied clown-turned infamous Batman nemesis in “Joker,” composer Hildur Guðnadóttir came to the rescue without even realizing it.

It started with Phoenix and director Todd Phillips struggling to complete the scene in the public bathroom following Fleck’s murderous rampage in a subway train. Phoenix wanted to mess around with a dance and Phillips introduced him for the first time to Guðnadóttir’s haunting, cello-driven theme. The result was an unexpected epiphany: “The Bathroom Dance,” in which Phoenix moved soulfully to the rhythm of the music. It began his transformation from Fleck to Joker, and served as the actor’s muse. Thereafter, he could be seen listening to the music in his ear piece on set throughout the shoot.

“The Bathroom Dance” theme returns toward the end of the movie when Fleck emerges as Joker down the long stairs across from his tenement apartment, and then before making his TV appearance with late night talk show host Murray Franklin (Robert De Niro). “Phoenix just told me a couple of weeks ago that this was the moment where he was really able to find the character,” said Guðnadóttir, who won the Emmy last month for her “Chernobyl” score.

I felt for him the whole film. And a few moments hit way to close to the heart for me.  He brought so much to the character it's going to be hard to watch anyone else fill those shoes.  I'm happy it's the only time we will see him on film though.  One is all we needed.

I read a theory that he was in the asylum the whole time and the whole movie is his fantasy.  This is like The Killing Joke.  I'll have to watch it again to pick out things I didn't notice.

Sometimes people don't like to see a glimpse into the reality they shunned and swept under the rug.  I for one will continue to lift up the rocks and look for the creepy crawlies and keep digging till I find what i want.  But back on topic
I had this discussion the other day, that the climbing into the refrigerator was him entering a cocoon.

I actually saw it twice, enjoyed it much more the second time.  The only other movie to watch was Zombieland 2 and I was not a big fan of the first one.  A hot girl zombie and a clown zombie, that's all I liked about it.

I need to see Joker again but I'll wait for Blu ray to come out.  Only one viewing and well it left me speechless

It's an amazing experience I want to go check out again. Will buy a proper quality version when it is available and not just the censored Aussie version that will surely appear.

Unsure of the complaints, as I never saw what they were stating. maybe some people live too deep in their own agendas and make assumptions about things. Which in a lot of ways is an aspect of the fuel that allows Joker to arise and awaken out of his abuse by others!

He himself states he has no political agenda at all. No one was truly decent towards him apart from the dwarf fella. Even the girl, that was a figment of his imagination due to the little show of casual socialising in the lift.

Joker being a fractured memory of how he got where he is before escaping the asylum is a pretty damned interesting take!

Why would they censor it?  It wasn't that violent.

:exciting:I meant more as a look at a side of society that is shunned and swept under the rug.  Not a political statement at all.  Mental health and illness is treated as a dirty problem in this world and this film was trying to address this.  I didn't read any negative reviews or any reviews other than what i saw here and on a few other sites i visit
And saw a disturbing amount of people calling it an Incel film and other nonsense of it being a meme.  Personally i have clue what a meme or incel is but I know i dont like either.
And why is Australia so strick on censorship? Seems quite odd to me

And please no explanation of what meme, incel, gif or any other internet lingo. I dont care to know and rather not know
I feel like this world needs to have more films of this nature in the mainstream

The film was damn fine. Strong performances all round and I'm actually glad they went for their own story, of which I was originally skeptical about.

It's not flawless though and a lot of the praise its been getting feom people adoring it for its portrayal of mental illness is bitter sweetly deserved in my opinion. Now, its been years since I watched it, but I feel like it stole several, almost identical scenes from The Machinist. As well as a rather significant plot twist/detail. It wasn't subtle either. Not to mention the Taxi Driver, and King of Comedy similarities.

Overall I really enjoyed it. But I feel like it straight up stole several key scenes, and leaned heavily on aspects of other films, which prevent it from being anything super amazing. I'll certainly pick it up in 4K though.
